The gap

You know more Hebrew than you can say

You’ve done a lot of work. The apps, the verb tables, the podcasts. And still, when someone speaks Hebrew back to you, you go quiet. Or perhaps you speak Hebrew regularly, but you know that some steady speaking practice in a comfortable place would make a difference for you.

Every Sunday we meet on Zoom and talk together. It’s the space that, for Hebrew learners, is often the one most missing. A space to just talk. And not feel like you need to get anything right.

Your guide

I’m a Hebrew learner too

Teacher Mike

I moved to Israel from Melbourne, Australia at 27, with a big smile and about fifty words of Hebrew. The smile didn’t last too long, unfortunately, because I really struggled to adapt to the culture here and to connect with others with so little Hebrew. I often felt isolated — but I also felt a clear sense of resolve. I was committed to speaking fluent Hebrew, and I went to work. Writing down every new word I came across, speaking to people at random, insisting that others speak to me in Hebrew.

It was a challenging road, but after three years I ended up getting a job as a primary school teacher, teaching full-time in Hebrew — students, colleagues and parents, all in Hebrew. I’ve been teaching Hebrew since 2014, one-to-one and in groups. So I know both places: lost, overwhelmed and frustrated by slow progress; and also the fun, freedom and genuine satisfaction that comes from being able to express myself, connect with others, and live a life in Hebrew.

I still make mistakes, obviously. But that’s the whole point. There’s no such thing as perfect Hebrew — I correct Israelis often — there’s just doing the best I can to get my point across, and to make sure I understand others.

“It encouraged me to speak freely without fear of errors, I feel I am getting more fluent and less inhibited.”

“Working with Mike has been the single most important piece of my language learning. When I first started learning with him, I was terrified to speak. I was afraid to make mistakes, sound stupid, or have him actually think I was genuinely stupid. His patience and empathy for a learner like me are boundless. I have grown tremendously as a Hebrew speaker and language student thanks to Mike.”

The plan

How it works

  1. Apply — a short form.
  2. We talk — a quick video call to check it’s a fit.
  3. Show up Sunday — I send you the Zoom, WhatsApp and payment links, and we start talking.

The hour itself has a simple shape: a check-in, two rounds of one-on-one conversation in small breakouts, a wrap. I move between the rooms the whole time. Occasionally we play a game to mix things up. It’s fun, I promise.

What changes

What you’ll notice

You stop translating in your head. Conversations start to flow. You get stuck, you get unstuck, you keep going — and you’re not doing it alone.

  • A live hour with me every week on Zoom
  • A small community of Hebrew speakers on a similar journey to you
  • A private WhatsApp group — to stay connected with your peers, and a direct line to me for any questions
  • No lock-in. Cancel any month.

It’s for you if you can already hold an intermediate conversation — present and past tense.

Otherwise it’s another year of studying and still freezing when it counts. The gap doesn’t close on its own. You close it by talking.

Come talk on Sunday
